ich erinnere mich an (zürich)
The project ich erinnere mich an (zürich) started with a two-part question: Does the city of Zurich have a memory? If yes, what would that memory look like, collectively, through individual memories of its inhabitants?
During the pandemic, the installation invited visitors to read and reflect on living in Zurich as well as an opportunity to share a memory of their own, handwritten on postcards. As the weeks past, the postcards accumulated on the walls and were performatively read aloud, one day a week, by Philip Matesic. A total of 372 memories were collected over a 7-week period as part of the Helmhaus group exhibition «Am nächsten Tag ging die Sonne auf».
An inspiration for the project was the 1975 memoir I Remember by the American artist, Joe Brainard.
